The Peranakan, also known as the Baba and Nyonya, are the terms used for the descendants of late 15th and 16th century Chinese immigrants to Nusantara region during colonial era.

This sub-ethnic group was created from intermarriages between Chinese and local Malay, resulted in fusion of culture which is rich in history and unique to their culture and of course to their “Food” as well

Peranakan cooking is the result of blending Chinese ingredients and local Malay cooking techniques with local spices. Lemongrass, coconut milk, galangal, palm sugar, lime, chillies… these are the basic spices yet authentic essential ingredients in Peranakan Cooking.
